Player facing wrong direction (stadia/controller)

Describe the bug:

How do you cause this bug?

  • use controller with Stadia
  • use orbit camera
  • move around, rotate camera
  • character always face same direction no matter how camera is turned or which direction it moves

Which platform: Stadia

Which input: Controller

How regularly do you see this? (E.g. 2/3 times - please try 3 times if possible): seen it more than three times, but often after respawn problem goes away

Yeah, I tried to reproduce this reliably, but could not. It does happen from time to time with game “Neonix”. It is not yet published properly though… Still in work.
Also I am not sure which of my code to send, there is a lot, and I am not sure which is connected to this problem. I switch some cameras back and forth a lot.

I had it reproduced during feedback friday today. This seems to be not only causing visual problems, but also gameplay issues, because when player always facing same direction, it does not seem to be able to mantle things, when they are facing different direction…

Might be important, that it only happen on Stadia with controller. Never on PC+kb.

Hey again. I’m pretty sure that this bug still happening and breaks my game Nuclear Gear Snake. AJ noted it at one of playalongs. It is not so noticeable there, because player is not visible, but what is happening is that when player direction is stuck in some random direction, the trigger which is normally in front of player (where you move) could start facing kindof backward where snake tail is and then it breaks the game completely, because player can bite his own tail… I built in some workarounds for this, which might help, but im not sure. I was never able to reproduce it by myself, but it is visible in video from 1:42:10 here - Play Along - Game Jam Classics! - YouTube

I think it only reproduces when there is more than one person in a game, which I cannot do, cause I have only one PC ATM. Maybe this is reproducing when you press ESC at the moment of spawn? This is what AJ did in video…

I have gone ahead and created a ticket for your issue so that our internal team can take a look to see what could be causing this issue. Hopefully we can get this resolved quickly!

Not sure if this helps, but here is another small recording of player facing wrong direction:

Note that in this game I basically never seen this bug during preview. Not one time it happened while I was alone in preview mode, but it did happen when there was ~10 or more people in feedback friday and more than to me.

Bug does break this game, BTW, since it is very hard to hit anyone when your character is forced to look the same position and all melee attacks are less controllable.

Again this is happening with Orbit camera.
